Winter skin care routine / Zimní péče o pleť

Standard

Hey ladies, enjoying winter? I am… just my skin is not on very friendly terms with winter. Gets really cranky. Dehydrated even dry, tight, oversensitive, red and peeling… well, at least that used to be the case till I discovered a few things that really seem to work for me in this icy season.

Garnier Essentials Sensitive: is basically two phase lotion that usually is intended for eye make-up removing but this large bottle is designed for a very gentle make-up removing of the whole face. I use it mostly for my eyes and it does a good job removing even waterproof mascara. Perfume free, contains some silicones.

Saloos Bio Argan Revital: I cannot figure out anywhere whether it is 100% argan oil or argan with other added oils. Nevertheless it’s a very nourishing oil that doesn’t feel heavy on my face but wouldn’t use in for my hair. I only wish the fragrance would be different.

Balea Anti blemish roll-on: the actual application can be a pain since the ball rolls unpredictably but it works. If you attack any pimple at the beginning with this chances are you won’t see it for too long. The surface ones disappear the same day. And for 2 euros/39 crowns it’s worth trying.

Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser: still the gentlest make-up remover that works I have ever come across. I don’t use it for my eys though and with heavier make-up you may need to use the muslin cloth in order to remove it all. Love the soothing scent too, no too heavy.

Pai Chamomile & Rosehip Sensitive Skin Cream: my favourite product from the Pai trio I use. The scent feels divine yet very light. It’s so nourishing without being heavy or oily and instantly calms my irritated and tight skin. I used it on little dinosaur’s wind burns and his skin was calm within an hour.

Pai Bio-Regenerate Rosehip Oil: contains trans retinoic acid that is supposed to fight wrinkles as retinol without the irritation. Feels soothing and my skin looks bright in the morning with much less redness on my cheeks.

What are your favourite products for winter?

A taky krásně voní.

Goodbyes

Standard

I don’t usually do empties or new-in kind of posts but since a few of these items are favourites of mine yet I am not going to do a lengthy review of them separately just yet  I though this is a good way to introduce them.

Balea DM Shower peeling Buttermilk & Lemon LE

I really like Balea’s shower scrubs for the price, effectiveness and scent. I’m not saying these are  the best ones out there but for the price they are a bargain and one that is actually working and pleasant to use. They come up with a new scent every few months and if you happen to like it you can stock up with a few of these without breaking the bank. The scent is milky lemon (as the name suggests) I prefer tarter scents but it is pleasant enough. The grains vary from mild to rough ones but they don’t feel scratchy.

Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo

If you read my previous post I love this shampoo and have another one on the shower shelf already. I read somewhere that the scent is very bubble-gum like so I wonder whether my nose is so off the track since I smell something nutty. My review of the shampoo and conditioner here.

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment

Again, I posted a review about this oil recently and while I stated that the scent is amazing but I actually prefer the Osmo oil…well, after some friendly “advices” from fellow bloggers I just may cave in and get this one because it smells AMAZING 😀 If your hair is not too dry or damaged you should be happy with it. I recommend trying the mini 10ml bottle first to see whether you like it or not. And..ehm..in the last post I claimed I was going to get Osmo as it works better..well, I might have lied a little bit. Being a rational woman I am going to get this oil because it smells better, it’s that simple.

Clarisonic Refreshing Gel Cleanser

I received this sample product (30ml/1 fl.oz) with my purchase (yayayayayay) of the Clarisonic brush and while you can use any cleanser with it you like I really enjoyed using this one. It’s formulated for oily and combo skin, smells very sopay-fresh and doesn’t dry my skin out or irritate it. I like it a lot but I am not really excited about the full price which is around $25 and I guess I won’t be buying a full version. Especially since the next product is as good.

Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel

I received this smaller version of 100ml/3.3 fl.oz as free gift with a purchase and have to admit I didn’t have a lot of faith in the product. My skin is very sensitive and most foaming cleansers dry and irritate my skin, including those that are formulated for dry skin type. This one is for acne sufferers. So it has to be potent and harsh and…it’s actually not. Even when I by accident get it near my eyes I don’t experience redness or irritation. My face feels clean and not three sizes smaller. The scent is fresh citrusy but can be a bit strong for some. I confess I am not a huge Vichy fanMost of their products are blah or disappointing but I am on my third packaging now and I will purchase again for sure. Oh, I cannot really say whether it works or not on acne or pimples as I simply don’t expect a cleanser to get rid off my occasional break-outs but it definitely doesn’t make the matter worse.

Essie Trillionails Daily Nutritional Formula

I run out of of my other Essie base coat and saw this one on special for 150Czk/$7. I used a few times and came to a quick conclusion it’s a waste of space. It doesn’t do anything it promises about strong nails and blablabla… but it’s also pretty useless as a base coat. It doesn’t make the polish last longer. Your polish will chip either the first day and or the very next for sure. I am really happy I didn’t pay original price which is…you may want to sit down… 560Czk/$28 over here!

Max Factor 2000 Calorie

I never liked this mascara and couldn’t figure out what’s the hype. A few months ago it came out with a new packaging and I wonder whether the brush or the actual mascara is different but suddenly it’s not only working but it’s fabulous. It makes my lashes longer and thicker, doesn’t fall or smudge and stays put till I remove it. I’m a happy camper!

Maybelline One By One Volume Express

I generally like Maybelline’s mascaras (apart from the hideous Great Lash) and while this one makes my lashes bigger in volume and quite dramatic it smudges. Not terribly but it does and I don’t fancy looking like a raccoon half the day. Won’t repurchase.

Hezky česky:

Balea DM Sprchový peeling Buttermilk & Lemon LE

Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment

Clarisonic Refreshing Gel Cleanser

Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel

Essie Trillionails Daily Nutritional Formula

A vůbec. Never more.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie

Maybelline One By One Volume Express

Random: newbies

Standard

Sorry for being absent for some time, I got slightly depressed with my 4 (!!!) cameras as none of them is still capable of taking pictures the way I want it to and I have soooo many new nail polishes and can’t share the prettiness with you 😦

So, in the meantime here I go with a general kind of post about the new things I got recently and my first impressions.

First off, I got Vichy Normaderm Triactiv moisturizer and Deep cleansing wash gel. I love the gel. It cleanses my face prone to occasional blemishes and oiliness during summer without making it dry and taut. It’s my second bottle.

I don’t like the moisturizer. While it’s low in alcohol, it feels thick, difficult to spread and my face face doesn’t feel moisturized in the least and gets very tight. I’ll finish it off but won’t repurchase.

The third skincare item is Olay Complete care day UVA/UVB 15 for normal/oily skin. Also not impressed, it’s not bad per say it’s just not great. Feels bit plastic-y once applied on, only for a few seconds though. Will look for a better daytime moisturizer. Again 🙂

Here are some body care items, nothing too fancy, just the usual stuff. Lady speed stick is actually something that really surprised me. All my life I had some irritation under my arms. Red rash or burning feeling after antiperspirant irritation. So logically I gravitated towards “sensitive” formulas without alcohol, colorants and fragrance, creamy in texture… The rash never left. And then my friend suggested gel based antiperspirants. I thought she must be mad, surely, it’s loaded with alcohol and perfume… and it works. Bizarre but true. No more rash for me and as an antiperspirant this ugly purple bottle works 100%. I’m on my fourth bottle.

Second item is DM’s Balea Magic summer, which is a gradual self tanner. One of those you apply every day and after some time you hopefully look more tanned than orange. And while I am quite light I went for normal to dark skin tone. It works really well, smells fruity and then there is that typical self-tanning ..ehm… smell. The color was very even, non-orange-y and started developing within two hours.

Hawaiian Tropic Protective sun lotion spf 30 was one of the buys when you know what works for you but you don’t want to spend the money. So you get something cheaper. And as usual it’s just not worth it. It works well, it’s rather light and non-sticky…and smells like rancid coconut. Next please!

Last item is SebaMed’s Anti-aging firming Q10 body lotion. I love it. Not that it firms any of my wobbly bits, I’m not that naive, but it feels rich yet sinks into the skin very quickly, the smell is very light and my skin feels super smooth.

In the next post I will show you some new make-up and nail polish such as Giorgio Armani lipstick and Color Club neons.

Body butters

Standard

The love for body butters started, as for many, with Body shop body butters. They have a huge selection of body butters, the most popular butters are the fruity ones. I have tried them all and liked most of them. And then I moved onto other brands and these 3 body butters are the ones I currently have and use.

The Body Shop – Papaya Body Butter

This is one of The Body Shop’s (TBS) fruity body butters, comes in a 200ml jar and is recommended for normal skin. I find it nourishing enough even for my dry skin. I like that TBS’s butters melt in your palms and soak in your skin just enough to be nourishing and leave a thin coating on it to protect it from drying but I know some gals don’t like that feature. The skin doesn’t feel oily but there is definitely a thin veil – or that’s at least how I like to think of it. The scent is VERY fruity, I happen to love it but if you prefer more sophisticated fragrance to your body care you may have to look elsewhere as all of these THB’s butters smell very similar in their “frutiness”. If you need a butter for extra dry spots likes elbows, heels or even shins, you may want to try the olive or shea butter.

Ingredients: water, shea butter, papaya seed oil, cyclomethicon, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, cetearyl alcohol, lanolin alcohol, phenoxyethanol, cocoa butter, methylparaben, propylparaben, xantan gum, fragrance, limonene, hexyl cinnamal, benzyl alcohol, disodium EDTA, tocopherol (vit.E), linadool, citronellol, citral, sodium hydroxide, methyl 2-octyonoote, orange 4

DM Balea – Body butter Cocoa (Kakao)

I usually don’t like chocolate scented anything, to me it always ends up smelling like plastic chocolate. Yet somehow this body butter has enough of the cocoa richness in it that I like it. I actually like it so much I’m on my third jar. Though I admit the price has something to do with it too. It also comes in a 200ml jar, exactly the same design as TBS’s  butters, it’s thicker than Papaya body butter (though not as thick as TBS’s Shea butter) and is super nourishing. I never actually tried it as a all-over moisturizer since I don’t want to smell like a chocolate cake but I love it for my winter parched feet, hands, elbows. It’s actually my favorite feet remedy.

Sells for 79Czk / €2,45

Ingredients: water, shea butter, cocoa butter, glycine soya oil, dimethicone, glycerine, glyceryl stearate, peg-100 stearate, lanolin alcohol, phenoxyethanol, cera alba (white bee wax), xantham gum, fragrance, tocopherol, disodium edta, methylparaben, citric acid, ethylparaben, butylparaben, ascorbyl palmitate, propylenparaben, hydrogenated palm glycerides citrate, CI 15510, CI 13015, CI15985, CI 28440

Baylis & Harding England – Nourishing Sugar Syrup & honey Body Butter

I am a fruity scent girl and yet this is another rather food-scented body butter that I own and like. It’s very lucky that I cannot detect any honey in the scent, I find honey scented products suffocating and too sweet. All I can smell is the sugar syrup in that cake frosting category yet with certain freshness that doesn’t make it cloying. Am I making any sense here? 🙂 I would not describe this as a butter but rather a cream, very thick yet cream nonetheless as you can probably see on the picture swatch down below. It’s actually a bit more difficult to spread in comparison to the previous body butters, you have to work it. If you don’t like that slightly oily feeling you get with most body butters you may like this one. I have a suspicion that it being mineral oil based it’s not as “moisture oily” but rather “dry oily” if that makes any sense. I like it enough to use it up but the texture is not for me.

Ingredients: water, glyceryl stearate, mineral oil, honey, cetearyl alcohol, peg-20 stearate, phenoxyetanol, ethylhexylglycerin, cetereath-20, fragrance, imidazoldinyl urea, tetrasodium edta, tocopheryl acetate, peg-40 hydroganated cator oil, dipropylene glycol, trethanolamine, citral

From left: Balea Cocoa body butter, TBS Papaya, Baylis & Harding

I will definitely get another TBS body butter as I like their fruity scents and they work well for me yet when it comes to nourishment and moisture the DM Balea Cocoa body butter beats any I have used in a while.
